Vim Wright Stewardship Award Winners

Fifth annual Vim Wright Stewardship Award Winners Announced: Awards Celebration will be held this year in Carnation, WA at Jubilee Farm on Saturday, September 6.

Recognizing & rewarding farmers and ranchers on the cutting edge of sustainable agriculture.

Hedlin Farms, located in the Skagit Valley, has been selected as this year's First Prize Winner of Farming and the Environment's annual Vim Wright Stewardship Award.  This annual award recognizes Washinton State producers who are providing exemplary stewardship of soil, water, air, and the wildlife habitat.  The award honors the late Vim Wright, who dedicated her life to protecting Washington's environment and keeping family farms in business. The two Runners-Up for this year's award are Rama Farms in Bridgeport, and Crown S Ranch in Winthrop.

The award winners will be honored at a family-friendly barbeque featuring local, fresh food to be held Saturday, September 6, from 3-6 PM at Jubilee Farm in Carnation, Washington. Jubilee Farm was a 2007 Vim Wright Stewardship Award winner.

With a change of date and of venue, the 2008 Vim Wright Stewardship Awards celebration promises to sustain once again the success of this annual event. By bringing together farmers, policy-makers, environmentalists, shoppers, grocers, and legislators, Farming and the Environment celebrates sustainability, conservation and the legacy of these to extend to future generations.

About Jubilee Farm

First runner-up for the 2007 Vim Wright Stewardship Award, Jubilee Farm was the first organized community-supported agriculture farm in the Snoqualmie Valley, and is still one of the most successful.  In 2004, Erick and Wendy Haakenson, owners of Jubilee Farm, entered into a cooperative agreement with Stewardship Partners to undertake riparian area restoration along the Snoqualmie River adjacent to theFarm. This work led to Jubilee Farm being one of the first four farms in the Puget Sound area certified as Salmon Safe.
